Vogarvík is our largest brood stock farm for Atlantic salmon in Iceland. Benchmark acquired the site in 2004 as the first step in an expansion plan to secure weekly availability of newly stripped salmon eggs for our customers.
The farm is land-based and located close to the ocean on the southwest corner of Iceland. Sea- and freshwater is pumped up from deep drilled boreholes in a closed system, which ensures no contact with wild fish and secures high levels of biosecurity.
The farm is closed to all fish with the exception of two intakes of smolts per year, each taken from our in-house hatchery, Kollafjörður
