Two years after launching Benchmark Genetics Genotyping Services, we are helping transform aquaculture breeding globally. Led by Dr. Carolina Peñaloza, our Genotyping Services unit leverages internal volumes to offer high-quality, cost-effective genotyping and SNP array development to external clients.
Today, Benchmark Genetics portfolio includes genotyping solutions for around 30 aquaculture species and continues to grow annually to meet rising global interest. Each of Benchmark Genetics’ microarrays is designed to detect informative genetic markers within a targeted species to deliver the insights producers need to accelerate genetic improvement and improve stock performance.
“We’re seeing increasing demand not just for genotyping tools, but for customized solutions tailored to specific species and needs,” says Dr. Peñaloza. “By making high-throughput genotyping affordable and accessible, we’re helping producers unlock the full potential of their stocks.”
In partnership with Thermo Fisher Scientific, Benchmark Genetics develops genotyping microarrays tailored to the needs of aquaculture producers and researchers. These custom genotyping tools are especially valuable for emerging species, as they provide the essential starting point for building strong, high-performing breeding programs. Benchmark Genetics’ flexible development pipeline enables the rapid creation of new SNP arrays – tailored to different species and marker densities – either through close collaboration with clients or proactively in line with market needs.
