About us

Delivering continuous genetics improvements to aquaculture worldwide

Benchmark Genetics is a leader in aquaculture genetics, present in every major aquaculture market and for a wide range of species. Our four in-house breeding programmes are focusing two main species: salmon and shrimp.

We are the leading provider of genetics services based on extensive experience from 30 applied breeding programs involving 20 species in 16 countries.

Benchmark Genetics brings together the companies Benchmark Genetics Norway AS, Benchmark Genetics Iceland H.F., Benchmark Genetics Chile and Benchmark Genetics Shrimp.

Our breeding centres are located in Norway, Iceland, Chile, the USA and Colombia.

Our strategy is innovation-led, making use of modern breeding technologies such as QTL and Genomic Selection. Although technology is an important foundation of what we do, we believe in being customer-focused. Long-standing collaborations and partnerships with leading aquaculture businesses are just as important when working on genetic improvements and developing new products and services.

We also believe in technical support to ensure that our customers are able to take out the potential of our genetics. Our sales teams have several technical specialists covering the three focus species as well as different production systems including RAS.

Milestones

Launch of Our Global Genotyping Service

On March 1st, Benchmark Genetics launched a global aquaculture genotyping service. The service offers high-quality genotyping for a wide range of fish and shellfish species and the development of customized genotyping solutions.

Launch of an Optimised Product Portfolio Salmon Ova

In January Benchmark Genetics launched a new optimised product line for salmon ova, with refined selection methods designed to elevate the genetic performance of growth and robustness.

Benchmark granted WOAH disease-free compartment status for Chile.

Benchmark Genetics Chile has achieved a Disease-Free Compartment Certification, becoming Chile’s first genetic company to do so. This recognition enables us to export genetic material to the global salmon market, showcasing our exceptional biosecurity standards. This milestone is the sixth salmon-certified disease-free compartment in the world.

Opening of Molecular Genetics Laboratory

In November, a new state-of-the-art molecular genetics laboratory opened in Edinburgh. This initiative will support the development and optimization of genotyping solutions for Benchmarks salmon and shrimp programs and support the delivery of cost-effective genotyping tools to external clients.
