Tilstanden er for\u00e5rsaket av viruset IPNV og kan medf\u00f8re h\u00f8y d\u00f8delighet.<\/p>\n<p>Viruset spres gjennom horisontal smitte (gjennom infisert vann, fra ett individ til et annet), men forskning indikerer ogs\u00e5 mulig vertikal smitte (fra foreldre til avkom). Utbruddene er ofte plutselige og kan medf\u00f8re h\u00f8y d\u00f8delighet og store \u00f8konomiske tap. Stamfisken vi bruker til denne egenskapen er selektert ved hjelp av QTL (Quantitative Trait Loci) siden 2007 (Figur 1). Resistens for IPN er sv\u00e6rt arvelig og kan i stor grad forklares gjennom genetisk variasjon i ett spesifikt gen. P\u00e5 tvers av laksepopulasjonene som Benchmark Genetics har testet for sykdommen, har vi registrert en overlevelse mellom 80 og 90% for de individene som besitter det favorable genet (Figur 2).<\/p>\n<p>Benchmark Genetics har QTL IPN som en standard egenskap i produktene <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmkgenetics.com\/no\/products\/salmoselect\/\">SalmoSelect<\/a> og <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmkgenetics.com\/no\/products\/salmoprotect\/\">SalmoProtect<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>F\u00f8r vi implementerte QTL for IPN i avlsprogrammet, benyttet vi familieavl for denne sykdommen.
