Cellene blir oppbevart i flytende nitrogen som holder -196\u00a0<sup>o<\/sup>C. N\u00e5 cellene skal anvendes blir de tint og vil da bli b\u00e5de levene og velfungerende, klar til befruktning.<\/p>\n<p>Teknologien er mye brukt i dyreavl, men ogs\u00e5 innen medisinsk forskning og sykdomsbehandling. For atlantisk laks blir metoden anvendt for nedfrysing og lagring av melke fra de beste hannfiskene. Benchmark Genetics har etablert egne laboratorier med tilh\u00f8rende biobanker i Norge, p\u00e5 Island og i Chile. Disse laboratoriene g\u00e5r under navnet <em>Benchmark Genetics Cryolab\u00a0<\/em>og er tilknyttet selskapets avlssenter i de tre landene.
