La infecci\u00f3n por piojos de mar puede provocar grandes heridas en la piel y provocar anemia, infecciones secundarias o incluso la muerte. Seg\u00fan la legislaci\u00f3n, existe un l\u00edmite en el n\u00famero m\u00e1ximo de estos par\u00e1sitos que se permiten por pez en producci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Si bien existen diferentes medidas para prevenir o controlar la infecci\u00f3n, estos m\u00e9todos tienen un efecto limitado o causan altos niveles de estr\u00e9s en el animal. Como resultado, los costos directos e indirectos de los tratamientos pueden ser significativamente altos. Antes de la implementaci\u00f3n de GS, la empresa ha estado seleccionando la resistencia a los piojos de mar en funci\u00f3n de los niveles familiares desde 2007. Al pasar de la cr\u00eda familiar a GS, pudimos aumentar m\u00e1s de tres veces la ganancia gen\u00e9tica en nuestro n\u00facleo. Benchmark Genetics est\u00e1 trabajando actualmente en enfoques innnovadores para identificar y seleccionar los animales m\u00e1s robustos.<\/p>\n<p>Junto con Nofima, investigamos familias de SalmoBreed con valor gen\u00e9tico estimado alto y bajo (GEBV) para la resistencia al piojo de mar. Las familias seleccionadas de manera divergente por su resistencia al piojo de mar muestran diferencias fenot\u00edpicas significativas en la adherencia del piojo de mar bajo modelos de prueba, validando una respuesta realizada a la selecci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>El desempe\u00f1o de las familias de SalmoBreed se evalu\u00f3 en dos condiciones.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Cr\u00eda mixta de familias divergentes de alta y baja resistencia al piojo de mar de GEBV<\/li>\n<li>Cr\u00eda separada de familias GEBV resistentes al piojo de mar.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>En la cr\u00eda mixta, las familias con bajo GEBV mostraron una adhesi\u00f3n de piojos significativamente reducida y se desempe\u00f1aron consistentemente bien en la cr\u00eda separada.
